The

Principal

 \

Welcome  to our school. My name is  Julie Smith.

I have had the challenging role of Principal at Wandiligong  since 1997.As a principal in a small school my roles are many and varied. To be effective in my role I need to be a competent teacher and administrator; able to do more than one thing at a time, understand everyone’s perspective and maintain my sense of humour. I am  an  exponent  Of De Bono’s symbolic “thinking Hats” I find by mentally wearing  and switching hats I can focus and redirect my thoughts enabling me  to problem solve  effectively.

The White Hat helps to identify the facts.

The Yellow Hat encourages optimism and exploration of  all positive aspects. Thinking with this hat  explores the opportunities for positive outcomes

The Black Hat is for critical assessment. This is a license to look for problems and pitfalls. What is wrong? What are the problems? What if?  A great hat to use but not in isolation from the others

The Red Hat is for emotional thinking. This is when you can talk about what feels right. The emotions that you feel can be aired and shared

The Green Hat targets creative solutions. Thinking outside the square results in innovative and different ideas and solutions.

The Blue Hat is the thinking guide. This hat helps to think about thinking ensuring that each hat is used  during the decision making process.

The se are the Six Thinking Hats

Using  the six thinking hats I can :

• Consider  a  problem  from all perspectives

Systemically consider the options and opportunities that arise in each situation.

•Use lateral thinking to generate  and brainstorm a range of ideas and solutions

• Maintain  focus during discussions and meetings

Ensure objectivity is maintained even when discussing contentious issues

  Think outside the square

Handle each situation  and issue effectively and efficiently

Plan and organise activities  ensuring maximum participation and enjoyment

Create teaching tasks that are innovative
